A Ride for Baby Granton

Granton Bayless is a six month old little boy from Bolivar, Missouri. In March of 2008, Granton was diagnosed with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID.) SCID is a rare genetic disorder in which the immune system fails to develop. Granton is the light of his parents' life and has become the focus of prayer for a countless number of friends, family, and others. The financial strain on Granton's Mom and Dad has already been great and has only been overshadowed by the emotional strain they have felt over these last few weeks. On June 16th, 2008, I will set off on a five day, 330 mile solo bicycle ride to raise money for Granton's family. Your pledges will allow us all to attempt to help alleviate some of this financial strain. This Blog will let you know how you can contribute, as well as keeping you updated on the progress leading up to and during the ride.

Thank you for your support and Prayers,
Jayme Green

Day One

Day one is officially in the books. I left the Law Enforcement Center at a little after 11:00 this morning. My wife and mother in law, several close friends and co-workers, and a few news reporters came out to see me off. I was escorted out of town by Sgt. Gardner and Officer Monasmith (my partner) from the Bike Unit and Officers Hollar and Stuart escorted me out of town on Topeka Blvd. Of course the bike guys had to stop and help a stalled car at I-470 & Topeka (always vigilant.) It was a beautiful day! I had just enough sun and when it started to get hot, I had a little rain-just enough to cool off. To top it all off, I had the wind at my back almost the whole way. That was especially nice on some of the loooonnnnggg hills in southern Osage and northern Coffey Counties. My father in law will be proud that we even stopped at BETO Junction where Toby was introduced to the world famous "giant" cinnamon rolls. We got into Burlington a little after four and have been resting here at the church. Getting ready to go eat now. So far Burlington has been great-but more on that later. I'm late for dinner.

Jayme,
wanted to let you know that I just saw this story on the Topeka news and immediately got on the website to see how I could contribute. I am still a full-time college student and cannot pledge a lot, but want to give some. I will be mailing a check first thing in the morning to the bank in Bolivor.
I know that you and your family are amazing people and hearing this news breaks my heart. You have such a strong and brave heart to be doing such a loving thing for Jenni and Danile and their son Granton.
I will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!
Good luck on the trip and may god ride with you!

Hi guys,
Mom here, just letting you know how
much we love you and we are proud
of you. You have a brother here who
was wishing he could be with you
today. A Dad too, guess we'll have
to hold the fort down here and be
with you in prayer. We'll call
tommorrow, get a good nights rest.
Love, Mom

Jayme and Toby,
We are waiting for you in Caney! Looks like you had a very successful first day. I'm glad to see that you received some good news coverage and that the weather was not much of a deterant. Weather should cooperate for you on your way to Caney, as well.
Godspeed,
Blair and Amanda

Blog Readers:
Looks like Jayme and Toby are making better time than expected! They should be in Caney no later than 5pm. They were in Neodesha for lunch at 1:25pm. So, if you want to come join us at the Caney Highschool parking lot, be there by 5pm!

You know, we should have gotten you one of those "PetSafe" GPS trackers so that we could see where you are in real time!

"hey, look, Jayme is in the bathroom at BETO Junction!"

"Hey, look! Jayme is in the bathroom at Burlington"

That would be cool.
